SMELL BASED ART

Do you know when a memory decides to call your attention?

It appears suddenly, without being asked.

And it rests there, on your skin, on your heart.

It’s a smell you can give a precise, unmistakable name to.

It animates, give joy, activate melancholy.

It gives me energy.

For me, smells are what make me feel good. They are my cradle, a magic, my deepest instinct that guides and reassures me because I know they are the right thing for me. I intimately recognize them and give them unusual forms simply because they compose my soul.

This is why smells naturally activate my obsessive archetypal, creative, experimental, and research process.

Botanical scents are my mean of expression, my way of opening up without fear, that allow me to connect with others and the tool for narrating internal landscapes, both individual and collective.

When I come to them in a personal or collective perfume, as well as an installation, they become to me a place and make tangible what perhaps doesn’t yet exist.

Just as the flower has always been for Copihue: it isn’t the end of what you know, but the beginning of what you don’t expect.
